MEP Grzegorz Braun, of the Confederation of the Polish Crown, is making headlines again, this time for burning an EU flag. His action came after the European Union took away his immunity, paving the way for prosecutors to charge him with hate speech, specifically insulting people on religious grounds back in December 2023 when he used a fire extinguisher to put out Hanukkah candles in the Sejm.
The nationalist Catholic, known for his traditionalist and monarchist views, as well as vocal anti-Semitism, entered the building of the Ministry of Industry in Katowice as part of an intervention in the matter of “liquidation of Polish mining,” reports Salon24. He then tore down the EU flag and started leaving the building, before throwing it on the ground and wiping his feet on it.
When an employee admonished him for his behavior, Braun replied: “Have pity on yourself and if you are not ashamed, people – fear God.”

“This is Poland, not Brussels. We will not display symbols of organizations hostile to us, which, thank God, do not have state status, which is why such emblems are not surrounded by any legal protection,” Braun continued.
Taking the EU flag outside, he threw it on the ground again and set it on fire.

Braun also posted the whole flag going up in smoke on his own X account with the caption: “Down with Eurocommunism! This is Poland.”
The MEP has been on a roll ever since he was ousted from the Confederation Liberty and Independence coalition for presenting himself as a candidate in the upcoming presidential election, being looked over in favor of Sławomir Mentzen (New Hope).
After his most recent debacle during a presidential debate, charges were filed against him for hate speech, including decrying the “Judaization” of Poland. Prior to that, he took a female doctor hostage in her office for nearly an hour after she performed what he says was an illegal abortion.
