An African migrant is now on trial for biting off a large piece of a German police’s woman ear in the city of Cologne, leaving her with a serious injury that has left her permanently unfit for duty.
The 40-year-old African had multiple offenses on his criminal record is now on trial for dangerous bodily harm, along with various other charges. The incident, which dates back to 2024, is only being tried now, starting yesterday, Monday, in Cologne’s regional court.
The incident started as many do in Germany, with the African man assaulting random people on the street. Witnesses reported the incident after he began attacking people with a key.
When emergency services arrived, the man violently resisted, pushing a female office to the ground and punching other officers. He then bit off a part of the ear of a 26-year-old female police officer.
At the hospital, the medical staff tried to sew on pieces of the ear, but her body rejected the chunks of ear, leaving her permanently unfit for duty, according to Bild.
The defendant’s attorney admitted to the charges at the beginning of the trial, but he claims due to “heavy cocaine use,” his client did not remember the exact sequence of events. A verdict is expected this month.
It’s not the first time a migrant has bitten an officer. Last year, On Friday, a Nigerian migrant grabbed a 9-year-old boy at the main station in Karlsruhe in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg, located in the southwest of Germany. Police intervened to save the boy, and the African man bit one of the officers, while three police suffered abrasions during the scuffle.
The Nigerian migrant was involved in three different attacks, targeting various officers in the span of 18 hours. Despite the serious crimes, the man was released numerous times by the courts, only to attack again.
