Battle of the forign ministers: Hungarian FM says Polish FM ‘hates Hungary,’ Polish FM lashes back, ‘I struggle to understand’

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said in a recording posted on social media that Sikorski is a “pro-war politician” who is a “Hungarophobe,” reports Do Rzeczy.

At the meeting of NATO foreign ministers, which took place in Turkey on Thursday, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski drew attention to the need for further support for Ukraine in the war with Russia.

Szijjártó responded on X: “At today’s NATO meeting, Radosław Sikorski— one of the most pro-war politicians — parroted the talking points of Ukraine’s smear campaign against us. I firmly reject his accusations. This is a coordinated attempt to discredit and silence us on Ukraine’s EU membership.”

Elsewhere on social media, he also called his counterpart a “Sorosist,” Hungary-hating, Hungarian-phobic politician while also noting the “anti-Hungarian propaganda” in Ukraine, which – in his opinion – is “constantly intensifying.”

“Brussels and Warsaw also want to intensify this smear campaign against Hungary. It is clear that all this is happening now to prevent Hungarians from expressing their opinion on Ukraine in Europe,” he said, adding, “I made it clear that we are dealing with a smear campaign against Hungary.”

“Let us not allow decisions about Ukraine’s membership in the European Union to be made in Brussels, Warsaw or Kyiv over and above the heads of the Hungarians,” he stressed.

Radosław Sikorski responded to the allegations made by Peter Szijarto on the X portal: “I confirm that at the NATO ministerial in Turkey I asked whether it’s true, as Ukraine claims, that Hungarian military intelligence carried out reconnaissance in sub-Carpathian Ruthenia. Both sides should present evidence on this grievous matter. I struggle to understand Hungary’s hostility to invaded Ukraine.”
