Germany’s Federal Foreign Office is planning a secret operation to evacuate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip today or tomorrow, according to a report from Focus Magazine, which learned the information from Berlin security circles.
The action has been coordinated with the Israeli army, which has agreed to the measure to evacuate Palestinians. According to Focus, the evacuation should primarily benefit Palestinians with a German passport, as well as their family members. However, it is unclear if those family members will also have German passports or not.
In addition, Palestinians who need urgent medical help may also be transported to Germany; however, it remains unclear how many could come. There are tens of thousands of wounded in Palestine, many of them with serious injuries after non-stop bombardment.
It remains unclear how many people will be flown out, and the Federal Foreign Office refuses to comment on the evacuation plan.
Israel officials, as well as surrogates, have long pushed for Gazans to be resettled in other countries, including European nations. Some European politicians have also been open to the idea.
However, this does not appear to be a widespread evacuation, and it remains unclear how many non-German citizens could be transported to Germany.
As Remix News reported in April, Israeli Interior Minister Moshe Arbel stated that Germany would partake in a “voluntary departure” of Palestinians to Europe, with hundreds of Gaza residents being flown to Leipzig. Germany said that only 19 German citizens, along with close family members, were going to be flown out.
According to Focus sources, 28 Palestinians with a German passport and their families were brought to Germany in April.
During the upcoming operation, France or Great Britain may also evacuate citizens and others.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz made headlines after criticizing Israel shortly after coming to power, saying “humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip must be provided.”
“We are also following the developments of recent days with great concern,” the 69-year-old Christian Democrat noted. Merz did not deny that Israel “has the right to defend itself” after the brutal attack by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7, 2023.
“But Israel must remain a country that fulfills its humanitarian obligations – precisely where this terrible war is now raging in the Gaza Strip,” he added.
