A group of parents have faced court over a violent brawl at a children’s soccer match in western Sydney last month.
Footage of the April 26 incident shows two women, one in a Muslim headscarf, grappling on the ground at Prospect View Park, Smithfield, during an under-7s tournament, before others join the fracas.
Distressed children watch on as match officials and bystanders run in and separate the brawlers.
Two women – Farah A El Jamal, 38, and Jiji Salah, 31 – and two men – Adel El-Jamal, 42, and Tiziano Liberati, 39 – were charged with affray, while another man, Youssef Salah, 30, was charged with offensive conduct, The Daily Telegraph reported.
All were granted conditional bail and appeared in Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday, where all pleaded not guilty, except for Mr Salah and Mr Liberati who are yet to enter pleas.
Ms El Jamal said “I was attacked” when asked by a 7 News reporter while leaving court whether she wanted to comment.
The parents will return to court in the coming months.
