Venezuelan Migrant Arrested for Brutal Rape and Attempted Murder of Young Woman in Polish Park

A 19-year-old Venezuelan man has been arrested in Toruń, Poland, after allegedly raping and attempting to murder a 24-year-old woman in a violent nighttime attack that left the victim in critical condition.

The assault took place around 1:00 a.m. on Thursday morning in Glazja Park, located in the Jakubskie Przedmieście district.

According to local police, a bystander heard the woman’s screams and quickly intervened, scaring off the attacker and calling the authorities. Police patrols were immediately dispatched, including units from outside the city.

The suspect was tracked down and arrested shortly after attempting to flee the scene. At the time of his arrest, the man had a blood alcohol level of 1.2 per mile, considered generally to be moderately intoxicated.

Police spokeswoman Dominika Bocian confirmed the suspect’s nationality and the severity of the crime. “The 19-year-old was tracked down by uniformed officers after a report from a random witness. She was taken to hospital in a serious condition and is fighting for her life,” she said.

The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office, and forensic teams are securing evidence from the scene.

The attacker is currently in custody, but formal prosecutorial procedures have not yet been conducted. Under Polish law, attempted murder carries a penalty of at least eight years in prison, with the possibility of 25 years or life imprisonment.

As local news outlet Tylko Toruń noted, the park where the attack took place is a well-frequented area among locals. The swift response of a random passer-by may have prevented the woman from being killed, and authorities have praised his courage in disrupting the assault.
