200 Poles prepared for evacuation as Israel and Iran war rages

Poland is working to evacuate approximately 200 citizens from the territory of Israel due to the conflict between Israel and Iran, according to the Polish Foreign Ministry, making it the first country to take this step.

“We have implemented the scenario of evacuation of Polish citizens through Amman,” said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Henryka Mościcka-Dendys, referring to the capital of Jordan. She added that the evacuation concerns “exclusively the territory of Israel,” and not the entire region. MFA spokesman Paweł Wroński emphasized that the operation coordinated by the ministry will be free of charge.

“We plan to carry out the evacuation as soon as we manage to coordinate all the services,” the deputy minister emphasized at a press conference. She added that the situation is “logistically complicated.”

The deputy minister informed that due to the closure of the airspace over Israel, the evacuation will be a two-stage process. The Poles are being transported to the capital of Jordan, from where the plane to Warsaw will take off, by bus.

“We assume that we will be ready within several dozen hours,” noted Henryka Mościcka-Dendys.

The deputy minister noted that so far, no EU country, nor any other European country, has evacuated its citizens.

“Poland will be the first. We are trying very hard not to cause a snowball effect, not to cause tensions. The situation is very tense,” she explained.

“The air raids on Israel are more serious than in the first phase, we assume that they will continue. In connection with this, we decided to evacuate,” emphasized Mościcka-Dendys.

As the deputy minister noted, about 200 people will be evacuated.

“We assume that the evacuation will concern citizens who are stuck in Israel as tourists or on short-term stays,’ said Mościcka-Dendys, who assured that the convoy will have all possible diplomatic permissions to efficiently cross the border with Jordan.

“It will be a bus convoy to the border with Jordan. We assume that there will be some escort, but not military. The flight to Poland will most likely take place on a government plane,” explained the deputy minister.

Deputy Minister Mościcka-Dendys appealed to Poles who have the opportunity to leave Israel on their own to leave the country as soon as possible.

“We would like to finish the evacuation this week. If we can’t do it within 72 hours, then hopefully by Thursday,” she said.
