According to the Ukrainian Air Force and Dragon Capital, 5,337 Shahed drones were deployed by Russia in June, significantly exceeding the previous peak of 4,198 drones in March.
Russia can now launch as many drones in a single night as it did in one month back in 2023, according to the Kyiv Independent, cited by Mandiner. Whereas in June 2023, 332 drones were launched, on June 27, 2025, 363 drones were launched, on June 17, 440 drones were launched, and on June 29, 477 drones were launched,
June 29 may have been the largest air attack so far in the Ukraine war, but June 17 proved more deadly, killing 30 and injuring 172 during a nine-hour bombardment.
There are three types of Russian drones: imported Iranian-made Shaheds, Russian-made Gerans, which are copies of Shaheds, and the recently released Garpiya-A1 drones, which contain Chinese components. They also use cheap decoy drones, called Gerbers, which resemble Shaheds in appearance but do not carry explosives.
Drones are often used in conjunction with cruise and ballistic missiles.
According to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha, there have been only two days in the past year and a half when Ukraine has been free from missile and drone attacks. A Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) source warned that Russia may soon be able to launch more than 500 long-range drones against Ukraine every night.
