How did Polish woman Klaudia K. die? Polish prosecutor’s office reveals migrant stabbed her 12 times in her head, neck and chest while she was ‘fighting for her life’

In a statement on Wednesday, the Toruń prosecutor’s office said the preliminary cause of death for 24-year-old Klaudia K., who was raped and stabbed by a Venezuelan migrant two weeks ago, was death from a brain injury, writes Polish news outlet Do Rzeczy. She passed away from her injuries on Friday, June 28.

Klaudia had initially been taken to the hospital after the nighttime attack and was “fighting for her life.” She suffered at least a dozen stab wounds to the head, neck and chest, as well as defensive wounds to the hands, according to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Toruń.

Prosecutor Andrzej Kukawski said that “the preliminary cause of death is a brain injury” and that “samples were taken for further histopathological and DNA tests.” Forensic analyses are ongoing.

After her death, the prosecutor’s office announced that the Venezuelan arrested for the brutal attack now faces a life sentence for premeditated murder.

Klaudia was returning from work when she was attacked by a 19-year-old Venezuelan citizen, Yomeykert R.-S. He fled the scene, but was detained by the police less than an hour later thanks to the help of a witness.

Numerous accounts claimed that Klaudia was stabbed by a screwdriver, while other accounts describe a knife. An alleged witness who was near the scene of the murder claimed the murder suspect had a screwdriver.

The prosecutor did not clarify what kind of weapon was used by the perpetrator in his latest statement.

According to investigators, the attacker had 1.2 per mille of alcohol in his blood at the time of his arrest. He does not speak Polish or English and used a Spanish translator during interrogations.

It was established that Yomeykert R.S. had initially been staying in Poland legally, but after his residence permit expired, he did not leave the country.

Residents of Toruń will hold a March of Silence this Sunday afternoon, from the Copernicus Monument in the Old Market Square to Glazja Park where Klaudia was attacked on her way home from work.

The case has proven to be politically charged, with Poles holding marches against mass immigration in relation to the murder, arguing it will lead to surging crime rates, just as it has in Western European cities.
