An Iranian asylum seeker, the 38-year-old Sakar M., is on trial for murder in Stuttgart over allegations that he killed his 66-year-old language teacher, Isabelle D.
The Iranian, who was also described as Isabelle D.’s “lover,” was reportedly driven by jealousy, according to the prosecutors in the case.
Isabelle D., reportedly desired an independent life, including maintaining contact with other men – a freedom her alleged killer, Sakar M., did not believe she should have, according to prosecutor Christian Wanjelik.
The prosecution alleges that after an argument, Sakar M. killed Isabelle D. in her Nürtingen apartment last October, then disposed of her body by throwing it from a viewing platform into the Neckar River, according to Bild newspaper.
Sakar M., who has resided in Germany since 2024, remained silent at the trial’s opening. However, reports suggest he may offer a partial confession on the next hearing day, admitting to the killing but attributing it to “passion” rather than jealousy. If the court accepts this plea, he could face a lesser charge of manslaughter.
Isabelle D. and Sakar M. met just four months before her death when she taught him German in a language class for refugees. Despite being provided with interpreters for Kurdish and Arabic in court, Sakar M. is said to have a good grasp of German.
Remix News reported on the case in 2024, with police noting that the man also stole her vehicle, a Seat Cordoba, after the murder, which was then found parked outside the refugee shelter in Oberboihingen where he was staying. Police then searched his room, arresting him, and he has been in detention ever since.
Further evidence against the Iranian includes his alleged online searches immediately after the teacher’s death for information on how German police investigate serious crimes. Prosecutors contend he then “made preparations to escape.”
