A disturbing report from a Hamburg elementary school has revealed growing Islamist pressure on children in German classrooms, with one young girl allegedly assaulted and humiliated for refusing to wear a headscarf.
In the BR podcast Kaffee extra Schwarz, journalist Oliver Mayer-Rüth described how Muslim pupils at a school in Hamburg’s Steilshoop district told a German girl her uncovered blonde hair was “haram”—forbidden under Islamic law—and demanded she cover it. When she refused, she was beaten on several occasions. According to her mother, classmates also said she did not belong at the school because of her appearance.
The podcast, co-hosted by Arab-born Islam critic Ahmed Mansour, also relayed allegations that several parents and even some teachers had openly praised the October 7, 2023 Hamas massacre of Israeli civilians. At a school event, an Afghan father reportedly spoke positively about the Taliban regime.
Mansour, who has worked for years on youth deradicalisation, described the situation as a case of Unterwanderung—infiltration—of German schools by Islamist ideology. He warned that a culture of political correctness has left teachers afraid to speak out, fearing accusations of racism. Since 2018, he said, the willingness of educators to confront these problems has steadily declined.
The figures bear him out. According to the Niedersachsen Survey 2022, 67.8% of Muslim students surveyed said the rules of the Koran were more important than German law, and nearly half—45.8%—agreed that an Islamic theocracy is the best form of government.
The podcast faced predictable backlash from pro-Islamist commentators. BR journalist Fatemeh K. accused it of “anti-Muslim racism,” while tagging Germany’s anti-discrimination agency and migration-friendly officials in a social media campaign to have it censored. Mansour responded that his criticism is directed at Islamism, not at Muslims, and insisted the real danger lies in silencing debate.
Reports also indicate that non-Muslim girls have been insulted as “Schweinefresser” (pig eaters) and even Muslim girls without headscarves are being harassed by classmates.
Germany’s education system now finds itself in a dangerous position: either it confronts this growing Islamist pressure—or it continues to sacrifice children’s rights, gender equality, and basic freedoms on the altar of multicultural dogma.
