‘We, the farmers, not only feed, but also defend’ – Polish farmers arrive to help Poles defend their border from German migrant-dumping

Twelve farming tractors arrived at the parking lot at the Polish-German border crossing in Lubieszyn-Linken to support the citizen patrols that have been on duty on the Polish-German border for two weeks, according to wPolityce.

The farmers included representatives of organizations that have been picketing in front of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship Office in Szczecin for several months, opposing the Green Deal regulations, the EU-Mercosur agreement, and the import of agricultural products from Ukraine.

The civilian Border Defense Movement has been defending Polish border crossing points from migrant-dumping by Germany. They say the German police have been “planting” people in Poland to help with these dumping operations, and Polish authorities are allegedly under instructions from the government to do nothing about it.

Stanisław Barna from the agricultural “Solidarity” and the Grassroots Nationwide Farmers’ Protest, told PAP, says they are there to support the citizen patrols.

“We support these people. Things like this shouldn’t happen, that a German police car pulls up, three or four men get out of it and no one from our side checks their ID. It should be like it is now, that those coming to Poland are checked,” said Barna.

Barna said such actions are not part of their normal activity, but “if there is any worrying signal, we will come here and help for sure.”

“We, the farmers, not only feed, but also defend. We want to show it!” he added.

Tomasz Siemoniak, head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, has said that “the police and the Border Guard have guidelines to act toughly in the matter of so-called citizen patrols.”

“There will be no people in the vicinity of border crossings who will try to impersonate officers or hinder the performance of activities. I assume that there will be no such situations, and the police and the Border Guard have clear guidelines to act firmly and decisively in such cases, not to allow anyone to conduct such activities,” Siemoniak added.
