Italy: Egyptian hotel worker arrested for raping 15-year-old American tourist on Amalfi Coast

A 42-year-old Egyptian man, legally residing in Italy and employed at a hotel on the Amalfi Coast, has been arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old American tourist who was vacationing in Ravello with her family.

According to investigators, the assault took place on Tuesday while the girl’s parents were briefly away.

As reported by Corriere della Sera, the man, who worked at the hotel where the family was staying, reportedly took advantage of the situation to attack and rape her.

After the assault, the girl called her father and told him what had happened. He rushed back to the hotel and, upon encountering the alleged attacker, physically assaulted him. Police arrived shortly after, alerted by the father himself, and arrested both men — first the father for the assault, then the hotel worker on suspicion of rape.

Authorities said the alleged rapist was taken into custody due to the risk of flight and because investigators had already gathered clear evidence against him. He has been transferred to Salerno prison and faces charges of sexual assault against a minor.

Medical examinations at Salerno’s Ruggi Hospital confirmed the assault, with doctors stating the girl had not previously had sexual intercourse.

She was provided with medical and psychological support and spent a night in the hospital before returning to the United States with her family.

Investigators are continuing their inquiries under strict confidentiality to protect the victim’s identity. The girl’s clothing has been seized for forensic analysis, and surveillance footage from the area has been collected as evidence.
