An Indian migrant nurse is on trial in Frankfurt for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting vulnerable hospital patients — but faces a maximum sentence of just two years in prison if convicted.
The case has sparked outrage after harrowing testimony from a 21-year-old victim described how her recovery from heart surgery turned into a nightmare.
As reported by Bild, one victim, identified as Elif A., told Frankfurt Regional Court on Tuesday how, one day after her heart ablation procedure in August 2023, nurse Gean G., 37, injected fluid into her IV line despite her objections.
“The medication burned like fire. A few seconds later, I was out and noticed my top being pulled up,” she told the Court. She said she drifted into a state of almost paralysis but felt him touching her thigh, chest, and genitals before losing all memory.
Prosecutors accuse the nurse of grievous bodily harm and sexual assault, alleging that he drugged at least two other patients into unconsciousness four months prior to the alleged sexual assault.
According to Hessenschau, police investigators found a syringe filled with the sedative midazolam in his locker, while an independent urine test ordered by Elif’s family detected benzodiazepines at levels 13 times higher than normal, more than two days after the incident.
The defendant, who came to Germany from India in 2019 and was dismissed without notice after the allegations surfaced, denies all charges. His lawyer, Sabine Princess zu Hohenlohe-Jagstberg, told the court her client “did not sexually touch” the victim.
The defendant was seen in court, aided by a translator during Tuesday’s trial.
“While he continued to live his life, mine was destroyed. I wish I had died that day,” Elif told the Court before collapsing and being taken away by ambulance.
