A child sex predator Tamil doctor who groomed 43 children online and performed vile acts in front of them has been jailed in Melbourne.
Krish Kulendran, a father-of-one, was sentenced in the County Court of Victoria to a minimum of seven years and a maximum of 10 years and four months’ imprisonment by Judge Gerard Mullaly.
The court heard Kulendran, who worked as a colorectal surgeon in Queensland before moving to Melbourne last year, groomed dozens of girls aged between 13 and 15 on chat websites before being caught by a UK undercover cop posing as a 13-year-old girl, the Herald Sun reported.
Judge Mullaly told the court the paedophile doctor obtained his victim’s personal details on the chat sites before grooming them, asking them to meet for sex, and soliciting child abuse material.
The judge said Kulendran’s most serious offending included him masturbating in front of a child during a livestream and asking her to engage in sexual acts while his wife and child were asleep within earshot.
“At one point mid-masturbation you said you had to turn the sound off as you may wake your own family. The reference to your family didn’t wake you up as to how depraved and corrupting your conduct was,” Judge Mullaly said.
Judge Mullaly said described Kulendran’s behaviour as narcissistic and predatory, and said he intentionally acted to exploit and corrupt children without any consideration of the harm he was causing.
Kulendran was elected as a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Surgeons in 2023 but after being charged was working as a kitchenhand.
