The attack was part of the latest wave of Kiev’s drone strikes targeting the city of Belgorod
A video showing a Ukrainian drone slamming into a building in the Russian city of Belgorod has surfaced online. The strike was part of a wave of Ukrainian attacks that targeted the the Russian border region in recent days.
The plane-type UAV can be seen zeroing in on its target, and the sound of a powerful explosion can be heard moments later, shaking the nearby area. It is unclear whether this particular strike resulted in any casualties.
Several people were injured in a series of Ukrainian drone strikes on Thursday, Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said. The UAVs damaged the official’s office as well as the regional parliament building. One drone also struck a passenger car in Belgorod, injuring three civilians. Several residential buildings and a store were also damaged in the attacks.
The region also faced a similar attack on Wednesday that left eight civilians injured, according to Gladkov.
Belgorod authorities ordered all state institutions to switch to remote work on Thursday and Friday. Large shopping centers will remain closed until Saturday, and outdoor events have been canceled until Sunday.
During another Ukrainian attack on Thursday that targeted Rostov-on-Don, a bustling of over 1 million people some 240 kilometers from Ukraine, a drone hit an apartment complex, injuring 13 people.
Kiev’s attacks have intensified ahead of the upcoming negotiations between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska scheduled for Friday.
