On Saturday evening, Austrian police officers arrested a 30-year-old Somali man suspected of stabbing two Romanian men outside Vienna’s Europaplatz train station and then attacking a third victim.
All three victims, aged 48, 51, and 51, suffered injuries, with one victim suffering a stab wound in the neck. Another was stabbed in the stomach, and a third man was headbutted by the Somali man, according to police.
A motive for the attack remains unknown, but according to the victims, they had no previous contact with the suspect and had not known him before the stabbing.
“According to the victims, there had been no prior contact with the suspect; he was completely unknown to them,” police spokesperson Markus Dittrich stated.
Police arrived on scene and successfully overpowered the Somali man before arresting him.
News reports indicate that all three victims were known to be involved in the local homeless scene and are believed to have alcohol addictions, according to OE24.at.
The victims were treated at the hospital. The investigation remains ongoing.
