Liberal leader blasted for ‘crawling for the Indian vote’ in Sydney: ‘Humiliation ritual’

Australia’s Opposition leader has been slammed over a visit to an Indian-immigrant dominated Sydney suburb, with many Aussies expressing their anger at her constant pandering to ethnic minorities.

Liberal Party leader Sussan Ley on Sunday night shared photos of herself in Harris Park, an Australian-minority suburb that contains a precinct renamed “Little India” by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during Indian counterpart Narendra Modi’s visit to Australia in 2023.

Ms Ley has been making appeals to Indian immigrants ever since Liberal senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price last week publicly acknowledged widespread concerns about mass Indian immigration due to the fact that up to 85% end up voting for Labor.

She made a video pitched at Indian voters on Friday, and said of her visit to Harris Park with her pro-multiculturalism immigration spokesperson Paul Scarr: “Good to spend time at Little India tonight, hearing directly from small business owners and their staff.

“Their experiences matter in shaping policies that support enterprise, reward effort, and strengthen every community.”

But her comment sections on social media filled up with negative feedback from furious voters who accused her of ignoring White Australians and growing anger at mass immigration as expressed in last weekend’s March for Australia rallies.

“Humiliation ritual,” Editor of The National Observer John Lawson replied, while another user said: “They still won’t vote for you.”

“Crawling for the Indian vote while Aussies desert the party in droves. We are now a nation of ethnic/religious tribes – it won’t end well,” wrote a commenter on X.

“Does the fact that we have a ‘Little India’ in Australia concern you? Why is there no inclusion and diversity in ‘Little India’?” asked another.

So we have another mini country inside our country? I thought this was Australia. Instead of having a rational debate about immigration and the numbers arriving everyday, you do this. Weak and pathetic. Not worthy to be a leader. No wonder your numbers are falling,” said a third.

“Celebrating the demographic replacement of Australians,” said another.

“The comments are exactly what I thought they would be,” observed United Australia Party Senator Ralph Babet.

Ms Ley’s comments came after Ms Price hit out at Liberal colleague Alex Hawke, who has Indian mass migration industry links, for allegedly berating her staff and threatening her over her comments about Indians voting Labor.

But Ms Price also insisted that her remarks had been taken out of context, and stressed that she was pro-immigration and had helped many Indian immigrants with visa and citizenship applications.

The Indian government on Saturday thanked the Opposition for joining the Labor government in condemning the March for Australia rallies on August 31, which were attended by more than 100,000 Australians nationwide.

At the time of the last census in 2021, Harris Park was 19.1% Australian-born and 45.4% India-born, just 5.7% of the population had Australian ancestry, and 18% spoke only English at home, with the demographics likely to be more extreme four years on.

The Indian-born population of Australia was 916,330 as of June 30 last year, according to the latest official estimates, in addition to another 200,971 “second-generation migrants” born in Australia with Indian ancestry, and 113,947 “secondary migrants” who were born in other countries but have Indian ancestry, putting the Indian diaspora at about 1.23 million.

But Australia’s Indian-born population is expected to hit 1.1 million in 2026 as high immigration levels continue, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, up from 95,000 in 2001.

The Albanese government and the previous Coalition government have signed three major deals with India that have contributed to record levels of Indian immigrants arriving in Australia.
