Political prisoner running for office rebukes Jewish activist: ‘Threat to democracy’

A Western Australian council candidate who spent four months in jail on false and politically motivated charges has rebuked a taxpayer-funded Jewish activist for saying he shouldn’t be eligible to run for office.

Stephen Wells, 56, had his nomination for Councillor in the City of Busselton accepted on September 1, and his candidate profile states that he advocates for a return to the White Australia Policy and opposes the building of wind turbines in Geographe Bay.

Mr Wells, who was violently and wrongfully arrested during a National Socialist Network march through Adelaide on Australia Day, hit back after Melbourne-based Anti-Defamation Commission chairman Dvir Abramovich called him a “hardcore bigot” in a newspaper article.

Dr Abramovich also attacked Mr Wells during his previous council tilt in 2023 and said this week that the Western Australian government should change the law to stop people with “evil ideology” from running for public office.

In an open letter to the journalist behind the hit piece in the South Western Times, Mr Wells said that Dr Abramovich should not be meddling in Western Australian council elections.

“Dvir Abramovich is a threat to democracy and has no business trying to influence a local election 4,000kms away from where he lives. He is a hypocrite,” Mr Wells wrote on Saturday.

“I have never engaged in or advocated for any violence against any group, but it is precisely his type of rhetoric against me and people with my views that has led to the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

“A man who was a moderate conservative but was constantly labelled as a ‘Nazi’ because some of his opinions overlapped with mine and those of National Socialists.

“I will not stay silent whilst this hypocrite stirs up hatred against me projecting his own sins onto me. I have no desire to be shot in the neck just for peacefully expressing my views!”

Mr Wells also says in his candidate profile that his motivation for running for council is to expose dystopian globalist programs to enslave mankind under a one-world government and, if possible, prevent their implementation.

“The SMART Cities initiative is one such subversive plan that we must ensure is not used to bring in a surveillance state or to control when your air conditioning can be used, or how much meat you can buy each week,” he wrote.

“Despite what the media and corrupt politicians may say about me, I do not hate any ethnic or religious group that is not my own, but I do hate the traitors of this country who use such God-created differences in humanity for evil ends.

“The normal every day running of our local government is done by hard working government employees up to and including the CEO. I will not interfere with their good work in their operations other than to hold them to account on behalf of the ratepayers and ensure that your money is being spent efficiently and being put to good use for the community.”

A spokesperson for the Western Australia Electoral Commission told the South Western Times Mr Wells’ profile had been reviewed, and because no breach of the Local Government Act 1995 had been found there was “no legal basis to reject the nomination”.

Dr Abramovich has for years been regularly given a platform by national broadcaster the ABC and Australia’s corporate media to call for restrictions on freedom of speech and political expression, and to demand the banning of political groups he disagrees with.

His ADC is a registered charity that received $6 million in government grants disbursed between 2020 and 2024 to expand an online “anti-hate” program and “a digital national network of certified holocaust educators”.

According to the latest documents filed with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, covering the 2023-24 financial year, the ADC has only one employee, who was paid a salary of $250,000 that year.
