The Case of the German SPD Mayor Who Was Allegedly Stabbed by Her Adopted Daughter Is Getting Stranger

Following a brutal knife attack against the mayor of the small German town of Herdecke, the case has swerved into very strange territory. Despite Iris Stalzer telling police her daughter was the one who stabbed her multiple times, police say there is no arrest warrant for the daughter. The strange statements coming from prosecutors are leaving many German media outlets wondering what exactly is going on.

According to an update from Focus magazine, Senior Public Prosecutor Bernd Halldorn held a press conference after the incident, where he said: “There are currently no plans to bring the accused before us to obtain an arrest warrant.”

Furthermore, Focus writes that “both adopted children will probably be released today and handed over to the Youth Welfare Office.”

Now, the crime is being classified as “dangerous bodily harm” rather than attempted homicide. The 57-year-old Stalzer was stabbed 13 times, yet despite the severe and brutal stabbing attack, both teenagers were reportedly released yesterday from police custody.

Halldorn also said during the press conference that “after the traces at the crime scene, we assume that the daughter is responsible for the injuries.”

The case follows after police took the adopted 15-year-old son and the adopted 17-year-old daughter into custody for questioning. Stalzer, who belongs to the far-left Social Democrats (SPD), initially refused to say who stabbed her when questioned by police. However, after she was questioned by police a second time, she allegedly firmly stated her daughter was responsible.

No longer attempted murder?

Despite a victim statement, forensic evidence, and the prosecutor himself saying the daughter is believed to be the stabbing perpetrator, there seems to be efforts to make the whole incident fade away as quietly as possible. There will be no trial for the daughter— not even an arrest.

Halldron said that from a purely legal perspective, they are only investigating “dangerous bodily harm”, no longer attempted murder.

A journalist asked Halldorn why they are not treating the case as attempted murder, and he said that the daughter had no intention to kill Stalzer and that she called an emergency number after the act.

Notably, there have been many murder cases in which the perpetrator called emergency services after the murder, often in an attempt to throw off investigators as to who actually committed the murder. In fact, Dutch newspaper de Telegraf states that the daughter said during the phone call that a group of men had stabbed her mother, which would be a clear act of deception on her part if true.

Police forensic units also determined that numerous bloodstains had been removed from the house using cleaning materials. If it were proven that the two teenagers had attempted to remove these bloodstains, normally they would be charged for attempting to tamper with evidence. However, once again, there does not appear to be any charges being issued in this direction.

When the crime scene scrubbing is factored in, it makes the prosecutor’s claims that the daughter was trying to call emergency services to help her mom even more questionable.

Halldorn also confirmed that “we didn’t see any traces (of the crime) outside the house.” The crime scene showed that the initial stabbing attack occurred in the basement.

“The traces further suggest that Ms. Stalzer then dragged herself to the ground floor.”

Police also reportedly found bloodstained clothing, which belonged to the daughter, in the son’s backpack. Furthermore, Dutch news outlet De Telegraf reports that the son also had one of the knives in his backpack, while Bild reported a second knife used in the crime was also found in his bedroom.

Son not even questioned

Adding to the strange elements of the case, Halldorn stated: “I believe that the boy has not yet been formally questioned.”

He “believes”?

Is he not the senior public prosecutor in this case? Should he not “know” whether the boy has been questioned? Furthermore, his excuse as to why the 15-year-old was not questioned appears to be a case of circular logic. He said that the 15-year-old did not have legal representation. And the reason for that? The parents had not authorized it.

Well, one parent was in the hospital, allegedly fighting for her life, and the father had returned from a trip on the same night as the incident, so was he even asked for authorization? This appears to be an open question.

Halldorn was also asked if the son supported the stabbing act in any manner. The prosecutor simply responds that it is a “good question. We are still establishing the facts.”

Perhaps managing to question him about the stabbing attack would be a good start?

Despite numerous mainstream media outlets reporting that there was a previous attack on the Stalzer by the daughter last summer, also involving a knife, Halldorn refuses to answer a question about this. He simply said: “All that matters to us is facts, not guesses.”

A neighbor also heard a shouting argument between the son and the mother shortly before she was attacked, yet another reason why the son should have already been questioned.

Presumably, there is a police report about this previous incident, and presumably, Halldorn, as the senior public prosecutor, would have access to this information. If this incident never occurred, as Spiegel reported, Halldorn should clear this up. He certainly does not need to “guess” about anything here, as he should have access to these “facts.” Instead, he seems to be creating more questions than answers.

Stalzer is now in “stable” condition, but she appeared to suffer horrendous wounds. In addition to the stab wounds, which punctured her lung, media reports also indicate that she suffered blunt force trauma to her skull.

There are also unsubstantiated claims circulating that the daughter of Stalzer was featured in an advertisement for her tax and law firm eight years ago, which is still up on Youtube. In the video, Stalzer is also featured.
