Residents of Neuffen—a small town on the edge of the Swabian Alps—have been left unsettled after a violent incident involving a 36-year-old asylum seeker who ran naked through the streets, smashing cars and assaulting a passerby.
According to the Reutlingen Police Department, the man shouted at pedestrians, confronted schoolchildren, struck several cars, and even climbed onto the hood of a vehicle:
He then completely exposed himself, ran naked down the street, and even physically assaulted a passerby before he was taken into custody by police officers who had been alerted in the meantime.
Police confirmed that the suspect, described as “apparently confused,” was taken to a psychiatric hospital and admitted as an inpatient. “According to current information, no one was seriously injured, and no property damage has been reported so far,” authorities said.
According to Bild the man is an asylum seeker from Togo who has been living in Neuffen for around two years. Witnesses said that he smashed cars and banged on shop windows where business owners had barricaded themselves with customers inside.
One resident recounted how the asylum seeker pushed an elderly passerby to the ground and beat him.
The incident will add to the growing fear of migrant violence in Germany. Several reported incidents involved asylum seekers, including one last month in Kusel, Rhineland-Palatinate, where two residents were seriously injured in a knife attack at a refugee shelter. In a separate case in Dresden, an Iraqi migrant repeatedly harassed women but was released multiple times, while in Dortmund, a police officer was hospitalized after being bitten during a late-night altercation with a Syrian national.
