A Fijian man has faced court accused of trying to drag a young boy off the street on Sydney’s northern beaches and then punching the child’s father when he intervened.
Kitchie Knoss, who lives in Minto in the city’s southwest and is on the Child Protection Register, appeared in Manly Local Court on Wednesday after being charged with affray, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, “stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm”, and two counts of common assault earlier this month.
Police allege Knoss, 44, engaged the 12-year-old boy in conversation at the intersection of Collaroy Street and Pittwater Road, Collaroy, at about 8.15pm on October 10 before grabbing him by the arm and trying to lead him away from the area.
When the boy’s father intervened Knoss allegedly punched him and the two fell to the ground. Knoss allegedly struck the 71-year-old man several more times, and was arrested a short distance away.
Knoss did not apply for bail while appearing in court by video-link from jail, and did not enter any pleas, The Daily Telegraph reported.
A police bail document tendered to the court stated that Knoss was a “registrable person on the Child Protection Register until 2033”, and that his previous offending “included violence against a child”.
Knoss will reappear in court on November 5.
