Nigel Farage has defended Reform UK Member of Parliament, Sarah Pochin after she sparked outrage by saying some adverts are “full of black people, full of Asian people” and do not reflect society.
Farage acknowledged her wording was “wrong and ugly” but stressed her remarks were made “in a broader context of DEI [diversity, equity and inclusion] madness in the advertising industry”.
Pochin apologised for the phrasing but maintained her point that many adverts are unrepresentative of British society: “My comments on a Talk TV phone-in earlier today were phrased poorly and I unreservedly apologise for any offence caused, which was not my intention.”
Labour PM Keir Starmer and the Liberal Democrats called the comments racist and demanded that Farage acknowledge them as such. Farage said he “would have taken a lot more action” if he believed there was racist intent behind Pochin’s comments.
