Remix News has long covered the case of Mila Orriols, who has received tens of thousands of death threats and insults to the point that she requires constant police protection. Now, Mila is being prosecuted in a Lyon court for “racist insult” for a post she made on the X platform.
Mila’s X post from February 2024 read as follows: “I’ve noticed that many people with a background of inbreeding have very small foreheads. A huge part of families from North Africa are inbred, and many of them have misshapen and quite ugly faces, as well as very small foreheads. This especially applies to the twisted immigrants who attack us on the street every day.”
She deleted the post 10 minutes after writing, but someone took a screenshot and filed a complaint.
A number of men have been cyberstalking Mila since 2020, and at least 10 have been convicted in court in Paris. However, despite the threats, the 22-year-old Mila remains an activist and routinely posts on X, and some of her posts have been controversial. She is now being prosecuted in a Lyon court for her comment on North Africans on Oct. 21. A judgment is expected on Dec. 16. The prosecutors are demanding a €1,500 fine, according to Le Parisien.
Mila was arrested for the comment last July and has been active talking about her arrest on social media.
Following the trial, Mila remains defiant, stating that she regrets the form of her comments, but not their content. She also said that scientific studies back her comments that North Africans have high rates of inbreeding.
“Every day since I was 16, I have been the victim of hundreds of thousands of insults, threats and degrading and increasingly absurd defamations,” said Mila while speaking to reporters.
She further stated that her comments were, in part, a result of years of death threats and that the main content of her comment was based on factual scientific studies.
“I get up in the morning being hounded, spied on, reviled and demonized all the time. So one time, I slipped up in response to this torrent of hatred. The answer was clumsy. I don’t regret the content, but I may regret the form, but the form is no offense. The damage caused by inbreeding is factual, backed up by science. I have a number of scientific studies to back this up. I’m sorry I offended people, but just because you offend people doesn’t make it an offense,” she stated.
Her lawyer also was defiant, stating: “We showed quite clearly, unlike the public prosecutor, that there was nothing to be ashamed of, apart perhaps from a clumsy or provocative expression, and that provocation is still freedom of expression and that we are in France and that it must be respected.”
Inbreeding shockingly common across the Arab-Muslim world
It is well documented that in many Arab-Muslim communities, marriage between family members is a deeply rooted custom. This fact has also been confirmed by university studies, including from the Algerian Ministry of Health, which indicate that 23 percent of all marriages in the country are between family members, and in certain regions, this rate is much higher.
Furthermore, a simple Google search can produce a wealth of articles about the high rates of family inbreeding among Muslims across the world.
“In 2011, it was estimated that intra-familial unions made up to 20-50 percent of all marriages in North Africa, the Middle East and West Asia. Besides Muslims, some Jews and Arab Christians in the Middle East have a history of cousin marriage,” reads the top search result from Wikipedia.
Furthermore, Arab countries have had “some of the highest rates of consanguineous marriages in the world,” according to the journal Reproductive Health, which is archived in the National Library of Medicine, run by the NIH. In Saudi Arabia, the rates of cousin marriage are estimated to be a high as 58 percent.
The data is shocking in part because the age-old stereotype, shared by many liberal White people in the West, is that American southern Whites are the ones who are “inbred,” but this is actually a distorted stereotype countered by hard data. Not only is cousin marriage illegal in many southern states, but the practice is not widespread even where it is still legal. An estimated 0.2 percent of all marriages in the U.S. are between second cousins or closer, showing that Hollywood and liberal stereotypes, once again, are completely divorced from reality.
However, what may have gotten Mila in hot water is not necessarily her claim about interbreeding between Arab-Muslims, but her comment about their foreheads and “ugly faces.” It remains to be seen how the court will rule in this case in Lyon.
While her words may appear crude, the perils of inbreeding after centuries of the practice in the Middle East have been known for decades, to the point that many North African and Middle Eastern countries are actively warning against the deeply rooted tradition.
A report from the New York Times details the risks prevalent in Saudi Arabia, which has seen a number of recessive genetic disorders increasingly presenting medical problems amongst the general population.
The Times report details the devastating health consequences, especially when so many inbred people are having many children, and many of those children are born with disorders.
“The couple had two healthy boys, now 22 and 20, but their third child, a girl, was born with spinal muscular atrophy, a crippling and usually fatal disease that was carried in the genes of both parents. Their fourth, sixth and seventh children were also born with the disorder.
Spinal muscular atrophy and the gene that causes it, along with several other serious genetic disorders, are common in Saudi Arabia, where women have an average of six children and where in some regions more than half of the marriages are between close relatives.
Across the Arab world today an average of 45 percent of married couples are related, according to Dr. Nadia Sakati, a pediatrician and senior consultant for the genetics research center at King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh.
In some parts of Saudi Arabia, particularly in the south, where Mrs. Hefthi was raised, the rate of marriage among blood relatives ranges from 55 to 70 percent, among the highest rates in the world, according to the Saudi government.”
Europe, on the other hand, has already faced strict prohibitions against marriage to close family members for centuries, in large part due to prohibitions issued by the Catholic Church, which banned cousin marriage. The ban was issued in 1091, nearly a thousand years ago, in the Code of Canon Law, which was used to reduce nepotism and family-based clan alliances within Europe.
The prohibition on family marriages was put forward by a number of key Christian religious thinkers, including St. Augustine. The law was not always followed by everyone. For example, many royal families intermarried within Europe, but for the general population, cousin marriage remained forbidden. This prohibition led to a dramatic drop in clan structures and, as a knock-on effect, helped diversify the European genetic pool to some extent and increase trust in institutions, including the state and the Church. This may, in part, account for why European societies, particularly Northern Europeans, have lower corruption rates, higher trust in the state, and are among the most innovative countries in the world.
Many areas of the world, such as the Middle East, remain deeply mired in such family-based marriage practices, and to this day, family and clan-based loyalty structures often take precedence over state laws and institutions. Furthermore, Middle Eastern and African countries have extremely low rates of innovation and high rates of corruption, including wealthy countries like Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates.
Mila has faced countless threats
Originally from northern Isère, Mila Orriols is known for her outspoken stand against Islam in 2020, when she was just 16 years old.
She received an estimated 50,000 death threats from Muslim internet users, prompting her to leave her school in Villefontaine and go into hiding with police protection. However, she did not back down and became an outspoken activist on behalf of women facing cyber harassment.
Mila is facing multiple prosecutions, including for revealing the identity of a man who was sentenced to three months’ suspended imprisonment for harassment. The fact that she is actively hunted by Islamists and other groups, and considering France’s history of Islamists murdering their targets in France, seems to be of little concern to the left that continues to label her as “far right.”
