Elon Musk Again Claims European ‘Civil War Is Inevitable’

Elon Musk has spent the last two years on Twitter/X, stoking the flames of a made-up ‘civil war’ in Europe.

The owner of the social media platform has posted numerous times since October 2023 about this supposed war.

Of course, it has not occurred, but he still claims it will.

Musk has 228.4million followers on the platform, and while many could be seen as ‘bot accounts’, he clearly still has a large influence over many who use it.

Some of his posts about this ‘civil war’ have garnered over 150,000 likes and have been seen by tens of millions of users.

Other posts about the continent and its countries that Musk has written include phrases like: ‘Europe is dying’, ‘America should liberate the people of Britain’, and ‘Europe will die out.’

He has not been afraid to comment on Ireland as well, once claiming that a video showing heavily armed officers raiding a house ‘could literally happen to you for having a meme on your phone’.

This, of course, has not ‘literally’ happened to anyone in Ireland for ‘having a meme’ on their phone.

Musk’s latest provocative post came on Wednesday morning, when he shared: ‘Civil war in Britain is inevitable. Just a question of when.’

That particular post received over 60,000 likes and was seen by nearly six million users in the first three hours of its existence.

Last month, Musk virtually spoke to a rally hosted by UK far-right agitator Tommy Robinson.

He told them: ‘Whether you choose violence or not, violence is coming to you, you either fight back or you die.’

As expected, Musk got a fair bit of backlash from those outside of his following for this.

One user posted: ‘What could possibly go wrong when someone like Musk tells the hard of thinking, “whether you choose violence or not, violence is coming to you, you either fight back or you die”? It’s time our legislators dealt with this real-life t**t of a Bond villain.’

Another shared: ‘Elon Musk continues to promote civil war and violence in the UK. This is a consistent strand of his UK interventions: saying violence is inevitable and calling at the Tommy Robinson rally for pre-emptive violence to counter a supposed threat from others.’

A third added: ‘This is Elon Musk inciting violence. He’s not hiding it. It’s not subtle. It’s plain and simple incitement.’

Yet another wrote: ‘Elon Musk is yet again inciting violence on the streets of Britain. He is deluded and dangerous. He needs to keep out of British Politics.’

As he did not make any reference to a racial group, his comments did not fall within the current UK legislation that covers the differences between free speech and hate speech.

While many will argue that Musk’s rhetoric will have harmful consequences, different countries set different limits on free speech.

While the US often claims to have absolute free speech, Donald Trump’s administration has cracked down on pro-Palestinian voices as well as political opponents.

Musk also claims to be a free speech absolutist but under his stewardship, X has been accused of censoring content to appease certain governments in the likes of India and Turkey.
