Hunt for ‘dark-skinned’ teen who tried to rape woman in her 80s in a park

A woman in her 80s has been taken to hospital after being attacked in a park in Maitland, New South Wales, by a “dark-skinned” teenager who tried to rape her.

The woman was walking in Brooklyn Park at Ashtonfield, at about 7:20pm on Monday when she was knocked to the ground by a male who attempted to sexually assault her, NSW Police said.

The male then left the park on a scooter, and the woman called a family member who contacted police before being taken to hospital for treatment.

The State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad under Strike Force Bosgar are now investigating the attack and have released a description of the suspect.

“He is described as being aged mid-to-late teens and having a dark complexion, wearing a black t-shirt and black shorts. He left the scene on a push scooter,” police said.
