Zelensky rules out ceding territory to Russia, while pro-war Europe circles the wagons despite his government’s massive corruption scandal

According to Welt, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is pledging more support to Ukraine in the wake of what she calls “new series of indiscriminate attacks on civilian targets” by Moscow.

Meloni did not attend yesterday’s meeting in London but spoke with President Zelensky by phone ahead of it, assuring the Ukrainian leader that Italy would send further goods, including generators, to support the country’s energy infrastructure and population, and help it work towards “a lasting and just peace.”

Meanwhile, EPP leader Manfred Weber has called for Europeans to take up the task of peacekeeping once a ceasefire is reached.

“Then it would be time for European deployment structures – with soldiers under the European flag,” said the CSU politician. “Of course, Germans would also be involved,” he told “Augsburger Allgemeine.”

France, the U.K., and Germany have all indicated they are on board and will continue backing the Ukrainian president, with Merz stating, “We all know: The fate of this country is the fate of Europe.”

“We are acting in a coordinated and constructive manner, Zelensky posted on X after the meeting with European leaders, including NATO chief Mark Rutte. He previously also thanked the Netherlands’ Dick Schoof for that country’s commitment to a further €700 million in support of Ukraine.

Zelensky has continued to oppose any territorial concessions to Moscow. “We have absolutely no right to do so under the law – neither under Ukrainian law, nor our constitution, nor international law, if we are honest,” he was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency.
