An elderly French woman was simply trying to close the window to her apartment when an unidentified individual slipped into her home to rape and rob her in the “sensitive” Mureaux district in Yvelines, outside Paris. The neighborhood is known for its extremely high number of North African residents.
The incident, which happened on Dec. 15, involved an unidentified suspect who, according to police, “hit her and then dragged her to her room before tying her up. He pinned her to the ground, took off her clothes and penetrated her vaginally. The attacker then stole several objects from the victim’s home before leaving the scene.”
After the rape, the woman was able to call the police. Medical workers arrived on scene and found the woman, who was “traumatized” by the rape, according to Info JDD.
Police arrived on scene, and the woman was transported to the hospital, where DNA from the suspect was identified. The woman was hospitalized for several bruises across her back and shoulders, as well as several wounds she suffered on her wrists.
Police have not released a full description of the attacker, but say that his face was hidden by a surgical mask during the incident. Police continue to hunt for the suspect.
The elderly being targeted for rape by foreigners in France is nothing new, with a wave of such attacks occurring in recent years. In many cases, the victims have been in their 80s.

In September last year, a convicted rapist from Guadeloupe was handed a 20-year prison sentence for the attempted rape of a 102-year-old resident of a nursing home in Rouen.
There are cases involving elderly women raped in hospitals as well.

The elderly have additionally been targeted by foreigners extensively in robbery attacks. In October, an Algerian man was arrested for attacking an 81-year-old grandmother in a wheelchair, who violently resisted the man snatching her necklace. Although his accomplice managed to flee the scene, the woman’s resistance stopped the Algerian, who was tackled by witnesses. The suspect has a long criminal record and outstanding deportation orders. He was immediately sentenced to one year in prison and given yet another deportation order.
Last year, a serial Afghan robber beat 17 different elderly women and robbed them in a spate of horrifying attacks before he was finally arrested.
