This week, a trial is currently underway involving an alleged Antifa attack against a right-wing activist. A group of left-wing activists are accused in court of ambushing the victim in the hallway of his home, armed with pepper spray, knives, and hammers. However, he fought back, seriously stabbing two of the left-wing perpetrators.
The trial is for 32-year-old Kolja B. and 33-year-old Konrad E., both charged with aggravated assault against 24-year-old Leander S. in April 2024, when he was returning from boxing practice.
Kolja B., Konrad E., and an unknown third party allegedly attacked Leander S. in the hallway outside his apartment building in Berlin, writes Bild, kicking, punching, and assaulting him with a glass bottle, a knife, and pepper spray.
The method used by the left-wing activists is being compared to the so-called “Antifa Ost,” which became known for brutal attacks which left their victims with severe, life-changing injuries, including smashing the skulls of their victims. The group has been classified as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government.
The defendants, who had allegedly brought a hammer, knives, and pepper spray for their planned attack, face up to four years in prison and are represented by four lawyers.
The left-wing attack in Berlin did not go as planned. The victim apparently fiercely defended himself, severely stabbing two of the left-wing activists, leaving them to be found on the ground with serious knife injuries. One had a stab wound to the upper body, the other a bleeding wound in the thigh. Meanwhile, the intended victim suffered some light wounds, including cuts to his lower leg and back of his hand, and a laceration to his head.
On X, posts are highlighting that those on trial are deeply connected to left-wing organizations and NGOs.
AfD MP for Brandenburg’s state parliament, Fabian Jank, wrote that “the real scandal lies elsewhere: One of the defendants, Kolja B. (32), works as a scientific assistant for the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial Site – and is thus an employee of a foundation of the state of Brandenburg! Additionally, he is a doctoral candidate at the public Humboldt University of Berlin.
In #Berlin wird derzeit ein Antifa-Angriff auf einen angeblichen Rechtsextremisten verhandelt – mit brisanten Details!

He continued, writing that “The second defendant, Konrad E. (33), is also a social worker and works for the mobile youth outreach program ‘Outreach,’ which is financed with tax funds. Moreover, he wrote for a publication of the Amadeu Antonio Foundation, which is also state-funded and receives federal and state funds. Whether Konrad E. is an employee of the Amadeu Antonio Foundation is currently still unclear.”
The AfD MP argued that case shows the deep connection between left-wing NGOs and left-wing terrorism. “The case once again shows how short the paths are from state-funded NGOs to violence-ready left-wing terrorism. It must be thoroughly investigated how many left-wing extremist violent offenders finance themselves through state funding pots – often the ‘fight against the right.’”
The question also arises how the suspects know where there target would be, how they got his contact information and whereabouts, and how long they had been tracking him before they approached him.
Tensions in court
In court, tensions have been high, as Leander S. is a known member of the small party “III. Weg” (Third Way) and has been classified as a “neo-Nazi” party by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. He is being represented by Wolfram Narath, a lawyer known for representing right-wing defendants, including the NSU, a right-wing extremist group.
At the trial earlier this week, right-wing extremists stood at the left entrance, and left-wing extremists were on the right, notes Bild. Once inside the courtroom, 15 court officers were stationed to separate the two sides.
The public prosecutor on the case claims that Leander S. was allegedly one of the assailants who attacked participants of the Berlin CSD — Berlin’s annual LGBTQ+ Pride parade and festival — on July 27, 2023, including a friend of the defendants.
Kolja B. and Konrad E. have testified in court that they never had a knife with them, claiming they only intended to intimidate their victim. The plan, they said, was to “bring Leander S. to the ground.”
Kolja B. testified that Leander S. rushed forward, screaming and shouting, “Fucking communist f***! Is that all?”
“We were naive. I’ll never forget that day, if only because of the scars. It was a traumatic experience,” Kolja B. told the court.
According to their own statements, the defendants have been undergoing psychological treatment since their attack.
During his testimony, martial artist Leander S. told the court he has a “nationalistic worldview,” adding that he was “probably attacked by people who can’t handle it.”
He claims that on his way to the elevator in his apartment building, four to six people ambushed him and attacked him without warning: “They attacked me without a word. I was immediately knocked to the ground. One person sat on top of me.”
“I screamed in fear, pulled a knife from my right trouser pocket and acted uncontrollably towards the person in self-defense,” he further told the court.
When asked why he was carrying a knife, Leander S. said: “I often have it with me.” Could he have possibly inflicted the cuts on himself during the fight? His answer: He considered that unlikely.
The trial will resume on Dec. 18.
The case may remind some readers of the brutal “Hammer Group” attacks against innocent civilians in Budapest back in 2023. Members of the Antifa group, many of whom had come from Germany, were targeting right-wing extremists during a demonstration in the Hungarian capital and ended up sending random people to the hospital, some with severe head injuries.
In this case, Germany’s Constitutional Court ruled that the extradition of one of the perpetrators, Maja T., should have never happened because she identified as non-binary and would face violence and discrimination in a Hungarian prison.
