A Christian group called the True Patriots of NZ have blocked a Sikh religious procession in Auckland while performing a haka and chanting “Jesus, lord of our nation”.
The activists, who are linked to the Destiny Church, wore T-shirts saying “Kiwis first” and “Keep NZ NZ” and carried a banner saying “This is New Zealand, not India” while facing off with Sikhs on Great South Road in Manurewa on Saturday afternoon.
The Sikh “Nagar Kirtan” parade began at the Nanaksar Sikh temple, and hundreds of participants marched alongside trucks while carrying Sikh flags, and Destiny Church founder Brian Tamaki claimed Khalistani separatist flags were spotted in the crowd.

Mr Tamaki shared footage of the confrontation on X, writing: “Today, True Patriots stood their ground in South Auckland. No violence. No riots. Just my young men performing a haka…face-to-face…to send a clear message: KEEP NZ, NZ.
“The haka is not hate. It’s a line in the sand. It’s a challenge. New Zealand is a Christian nation! Our God is Jesus Christ. One nation. One people. One law. One vote. One flag…under one God.
“Kiwis will not be silent while foreign religions flood in. We will stand…peacefully, proudly, unapologetically…for our land, for our faith and our Kiwi way of life. And this is only the beginning.”
He also highlighted Sikhs being allowed to carry and wear swords and daggers while streets were shut down for hours, and said: “Multiculturalism is a failed experiment. And multiculturalism should never mean losing our common sense or erasing the Kiwi way of life.”
THIS IS OUR LAND. THIS IS OUR STAND.

IS THIS AUCKLAND OR MUMBAI?
Right now in Manurewa, it’s shut down for hours for a Sikh religious parade.
Roads closed. Locals disrupted. Businesses affected. Families stuck. And the most confronting part?

Gurcharan Singh, trustee of the Nanaksar Sikh Temple, told The Indian Weekender the group had permission from Auckland Council to hold the parade, while another attendee, immigration advisor Sunny Singh, said the True Patriots waited for the parade to be over before starting their haka.
“We spotted some members who hid their flags and t-shirts, and I suspect that they were waiting for us to finish our peaceful procession and return to the main entrance of the temple. That is when they came to perform haka,” Mr Singh said.
“We remained calm and ensured that the situation did not escalate, as we were carrying the Guru Granth Sahib (the central holy scripture of Sikhism).”
Other witnesses said the parade concluded peacefully after the True Patriots of NZ were escorted out of the area.
Police said in a statement that about 50 people blocked the road “attempting to disrupt a scheduled public parade by members of the Auckland Sikh community”.
“Police acted swiftly to ensure the parade was able to safely continue and additional officers were called in to escort the parade participants through the remainder of their route,” Inspector Matt Hoyes said.
