African man dies after friends driving him to hospital for stab wounds crash car

An African man has died after he was allegedly stabbed outside a Melbourne home and his friends crashed their car while driving him to hospital.

Victoria Police said emergency services were called to the scene of a two-car collision at the intersection of Clyde-Five Ways and Railway Roads in Clyde at about 3.30pm on Monday.

Paramedics found a 36-year-old passenger from Endeavour Hills suffering multiple stab wounds to his upper body, and he was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died.

Police allege the man was stabbed after being involved in an alleged altercation at a home on Carrera Crescent, Clyde, earlier that afternoon, and a 27-year-old man was arrested at the property just before 5pm.

He was later charged with one count of murder, and ordered to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court.

CCTV footage obtained by 7News shows three men of African appearance standing outside the Clyde home while raised voices in a foreign language can be heard, before one of them throws a bottle and a fight breaks out.

The footage also appears to show the alleged knifeman arriving in the same silver sedan as the other three, who then drove off with the injured man in the back, only to crash into another car.

A witness at the crash scene, who was also African, said the 36-year-old “had two wounds on the stomach, they looked so deep” and was covered with blood.
