Migrants in France Share Social Media Video Tutorial on How to Smuggle Into Britain

Video tutorials are being posted to TikTok sharing tips for migrants in France on how best to smuggle themselves into Britain.

Footage posted to the social media site shows men running behind moving lorries en route for Britain.

In each of the clips, a man is shown hiding behind bushes or trees before running and jumping in the space between the driver’s cabin and trailer.

According to charities, lorries are mostly targeted by migrants who cannot afford the often expensive people-smugglers’ charges for crossing the Channel on small boats.

However, smuggling on lorries also poses a high risk.

A Sudanese man was struck and killed by the vehicle he was trying to board in April 2024, while in June of the same year, a migrant was crushed to death by metal bars transported inside the vehicle in which he had hidden.

Tighter security in Calais means the route is much less popular and more difficult for migrants compared to the small boat.

In the first nine months of last year, 127 migrants were found at UK ports attempting to enter in vehicles, compared to the 34,087 people who crossed the Channel on small boats during the same period.

However, some said they were not deterred by the safety risks posed by trying to break into lorries.

A Sudanese migrant in Calais named Mohamed told InfoMigrants, a news platform for refugees, that trying to cross via small boat was not an option for him.

He said: “I won’t take one. I have nothing – no money, and no one to ask for it from. I’m not going to try to get into a boat. There’s no point in continuing to talk about it.”

“I just watch for ‘chemicals’ signs on vehicle doors, that’s all. Otherwise, I try to get into a heavy-goods vehicle any way I can, day or night.”

The first of the clip in the video shows an unsuccessful attempt, in which the lorry is moving too quickly for the man to board the vehicle.

The caption in Arabic reads: “The next one is better.”

It then shows a series of videos of successful attempts, with captions including “congratulations, UK welcome” and “finally, he brought it. Thank God for his safety.”

TikTok has told The Telegraph it did not allow content that displayed or encouraged human trafficking and smuggling and prohibits content that promoted criminal behaviour.

Yesterday, GB News exclusively revealed the first small boat of 2026 has made it to UK shores after crossing the Channel in sub-zero temperatures.

The People’s Channel understands several other attempted crossings were abandoned due to freezing weather conditions.

Some were said to be suffering hypothermia after coming through sleet and freezing temperatures on their dinghy.

One was taken on a stretcher off the vessel after what their rescuers described as a “traumatic” journey.

A Home Office spokesman said: “We are relentless in our pursuit of people-smuggling gangs and stand ready to respond to all methods, including lorries and other clandestine routes.

“That’s why the Home Secretary has set out the most sweeping reforms to tackle illegal migration in modern times, removing incentives which draw people to the UK illegally and making it easier to remove and deport them.

“Our tougher legislation and continued work with our French counterparts will disrupt vile people-smuggling gangs.”
