Two prisoners have been charged with murder after allegedly beating a notorious child sex offender to death inside a Queensland jail last year.
Shannon Daniel Norgate, 28, who was previously jailed for posing as a security guard and luring three children into toilets at a school and shopping centre in Gladstone, was allegedly assaulted at at the Maryborough Correctional Centre on November 26, and died in hospital on December 1.
Police said on Wednesday that detectives from the Corrective Services Investigation Unit and Maryborough Criminal Investigation Branch charged a 29-year-old man and a 31-year-old man with murder over the alleged attack, and both will appear in court on Tuesday.
Norgate spent just 406 days in jail for the school bathroom attack and put on three years’ probation, but in 2020 made headlines again after being found living 30m from a primary school in Brisbane.
Then in 2023 he was caught grooming a 12-year-old boy and jailed for just two more years despite the judge describing him as a “true predator”.
