Australian basketball legend Andrew Bogut has called for Castle Law after a shocking attempted home invasion southwest of Sydney where a young father fought off armed intruders with a shovel.
Former NBA star Bogut, who was a vocal defender of personal freedoms during Australia’s human rights-violating Covid lockdowns, spoke out on Thursday in response to a post on X by the Libertarian Party NSW.
“The Libertarian Party is demanding the introduction of Castle Law in NSW. Police cannot be everywhere, and the law must stop prioritising the ‘rights’ of intruders over the safety of residents,” they wrote.
“We believe citizens should have no duty to retreat inside their own homes. No one should be forced to weigh legal risks while defending their loved ones. By siding with victims over perpetrators, we restore the principle that a person’s home is their castle.”
Castle Law, also known as Castle Doctrine, allows a person to use “whatever means necessary”, including lethal force, to defend themselves, their families and their property, rather than the “reasonable force” permitted by current law.
Bogut responded by saying he agreed with the post, but that he expected the government to pass more laws restricting free speech instead.
Castle Law is the biggest no brainer, especially when you consider the Australian Government (Libs and Labor, same shit) continue to fail @ protecting its people…..
Yet they will implement/expand more laws like “hate speech” which will mostly impact everyday law abiding… https://t.co/i58T4yidQ8

Explain to me why we shouldn’t have the right to bear arms to defend our homes?
We need the Castle Law Doctrine and the Right to Bear Arms!
Tell me that not I’m wrong!
What are we waiting for? https://t.co/rlI30CkHWM pic.twitter.com/CtVO1ieCBT

“Yet they will implement/expand more laws like ‘hate speech’ which will mostly impact everyday law abiding Australians. Comical.”
Former MMA fighter and Libertarian candidate Elvis Sinosic made a similar post about the Sydney incident, writing on X: “Explain to me why we shouldn’t have the right to bear arms to defend our homes? We need the Castle Law Doctrine and the Right to Bear Arms! Tell me that not I’m wrong! What are we waiting for?”
CCTV footage of the attempted home invasion showed a father-of-three confronting three masked knife-wielding thugs outside his home in Wilton while his terrified wife held their newborn baby.
The brave dad said he chased the trio down the street after they tried to break into his car, only for them to return and try to storm inside with knives.
Last year large petitions were presented to the NSW, Queensland and Victorian parliaments calling for variations of Castle Law, attracting 22,193, 113,380, and 20,554 signatures respectively.
The NSW petition, launched by Moree Plains councillor Kelly James and Libertarian MP John Ruddick, was presented on November 11 but Attorney-General Michael Daley, who worked with Premier Chris Minns to devise new “hate speech” and gun legislation in response to the Bondi Islamic terrorist attack, said the government was not considering changing self-defence laws.
Queensland Attorney-General Deb Frecklington said in response to her state’s petition, which was sponsored by then-Katter’s Australian Party MP Nicholas Dametto, that the state government would consider a review of particular criminal defences under the Criminal Code, including self-defence, by The Queensland Law Reform Commission that was due on December 1.
In Victoria Attorney-General Sonia Kilkenny said “the government continues to monitor Victoria’s criminal laws to ensure they remain effective and are in line with community expectations” but did not say whether she was considering Castle Law-style reforms.
