Race of homicide suspects reported to the FBI for the months of January through June in 2025
55.7% Black
41.7% White/Latino/North African/Middle Eastern/Central Asian/Gypsy/Ect.
1.3% American Indian/Alaskan Native
0.9% East Asian
0.3% Hawaiian Native/Pacific Islander
Note that “White” is a catch-all for crime suspects. In much of the country, Blacks with Spanish surnames are even reported as “White.” We also continue to find more and more police departments censoring the race of homicide suspects and just leaving the racial category blank.
Some police departments have already submitted data for the entire year. The FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services is no longer waiting to publish data on an entire year’s worth of data the following year. Each month, they update the website with new data.
If we look at the entire year, the Black percentage drops to 55.4%; however, the majority Black cities tend to be more likely to be behind in submitting data than majority White cities.
