Three Somalian men have been charged with the murder of a Sudanese teenager in an alleged drive-by shooting in inner city Melbourne earlier this month.
Ater Good, 16, was allegedly shot in the head in Fitzroy in the early hours on January 3, and police said are still looking into whether the alleged killing was linked to a machete attack on two African men of Somali appearance in Carlton on News Year’s Eve.
Heidelberg resident Omar Omar, 21, was arrested at Melbourne Airport early Monday morning, while Abdijalil Abdirahman Warsame, 19, who lives in Heidelberg West, and Shakiib Farah Abdulkadir, 20, from Bundoora, were arrested and charged on January 11.
Omar appeared in court on Monday morning, and all three have been remanded in custody to face Melbourne Magistrates Court in June, The Herald Sun reported.
Victoria Police Crime Command detectives, together with regional police and other specialist units including Taskforce VIPER, have established Operation Firelong to investigate both the Fitzroy and Carlton incidents and prevent ongoing violence.

After Ater’s alleged murder violent drill rap songs appeared online appearing to boast about the shooting, with lyrics including: “Complete that mission now the opp boys up in the news, ha ha that nigga got put in a zoot, dressed in black when I’m in that mood.”
During the Carlton attack, a 20-year-old from Heidelberg West and an 18-year-old from New South Wales, who were standing outside The Balcony shisha bar in Lygon Street, were set upon by seven masked males of African appearance armed with machetes and knives.
CCTV of the attack shows the hooded thugs hacking and slashing the two men, before one escaped down the street and the other managed to take refuge inside the shisha bar.
Both were hospitalised with serious injuries.
