An African woman has been arrested after allegedly attacking and injuring a flight attendant during a flight from Canberra to Perth.
Millie Jepkemboi Omonei, 52, was allegedly behaving erratically towards another passenger as the plane prepared for take-off on December 13, according to the Australian Federal Police.
When a cabin crew member checked on her welfare, Omonei allegedly forcibly grabbed the head and arm of the flight attendant, causing minor injuries, police said.
Officers boarded the plane on arrival in Perth, and escorted Omonei off the flight when she allegedly became argumentative and aggressive, and footage released by police shows her being marched across the tarmac and into a police van.
Omonei was charged with assaulting crew of an aircraft and behaving in an offensive a disorderly manner on an aircraft. The first charge carries a maximum penalty if 10 years’ imprisonment.
Her lawyer on Friday indicated his client would likely be pleading guilty and was waiting to see if the allegedly victim would provide a victim impact statement or medical evidence, The West Australian reported.
Omonei will face court again on February 20.
