Victoria’s woke police force has been heavily criticised for investigating an alleged “offensive slur” at Melbourne park while crime is at record high levels.
On Friday Victoria Police released CCTV of a jogger as part of an investigation into “offensive language targeted towards the LGBTQIA+ community” in what they described as a “prejudice-motivated” incident in Kensington on January 2.
“There is absolutely no place for hate-based behaviour in our society and police will not tolerate such activity,” police said in a statement, and a senior sergeant made similar comments on 7News, where a witness revealed the “offensive slur” in question was the word “poofter”.
But the probe stunned everyday Australians, who expressed shock that the police were pouring resources into investigating words when Victorians feel unsafe in due to home invasions, African gangs attack each other with machetes, and a Middle Eastern crime gang tobacco war continues to rage across Melbourne.

“Victoria police is hunting down a jogger because he yelled out ‘poof’. Meanwhile Melbourne has constant machete attacks, carjackings and home invasions, and this is what they choose to spend their time on!! Melbourne is such a dumpster fire of a city. It is a woke, broke, far left joke,” wrote Senator Ralph Babet.
“It’s difficult to comprehend the sheer volume of resources being poured into locating this jogger for something he allegedly said. The exact words remain unclear, yet I’ve witnessed far more serious crimes in this state that attracted far less attention,” wrote independent journalist Rukshan Fernando.
“While not condoning any wrongdoing, it would help to have a more detailed understanding of why finding this jogger is deemed so critical.”
“Just a thought, but what if they used those resources to find the individuals who vandalised the colonial monuments in Flagstaff gardens!” one Aussie replied.
The Free Speech Union of Australia was so shocked by the investigation they originally thought the official Victoria Police X account was a parody.
“Victoria Police are busy investigating whether someone used ‘offensive’ words and have put out an appeal. Next they’ll be investigating thought crime. Maybe they could spend their resources dealing with real crime?” the FSU said.
“Machete crime. Car theft. Gang violence. And a youth crime epidemic. Victoria Police are working hard to bring a “hate” speaker to “justice”. The laws in this country and their enforcement are now just stupid. Roll the political class – get new politicians,” political commentator Matthew Camenzuli said.

According to the latest crime statistics, released near the end of December, the number of criminal offences recorded in Victoria in the year to September was the highest on record, with home invasions up 14% and double the number in 2019.
Despite the violent crime crisis, Victoria Police regularly engages in far-left initiatives, including celebrating “trans awareness week” in November, which sparked similar backlash.
Members of the public have also complained about Victoria Police failing to respond to calls, including telling a burgled business owner it was too broke to prosecute the offender, not showing up at all when a man was attacked by an African in the street, and ignoring a patriotic protester who was bashed by far-left extremists at a March for Australia rally.
There are 43 stations that are either only open for 8 or 16 hours a day or no longer provide reception service, while the force is about 2,000 officers short, with vacancies rapidly increasing despite entrance standards being drastically reduced.
State Budget papers in May revealed that only 55% of Victorians have confidence in the police, 52% are satisfied with policing services, and 51% feel safe walking locally at night.
The satisfaction and integrity ratings are far below the departmental targets of 80% and 82%, down from 55.5% and 61.9% a year earlier, and the results mirror an internal poll from June last year which found public confidence and satisfaction in police had fallen to 58%, the lowest levels since records began.
After last year’s poll results former commissioner Kel Glare said “unreasonable, violent and indefensible” police actions during Victoria’s human rights-violating Covid lockdowns had battered public faith in the force.
