Far-left cowards attack Australia Day marchers in Melbourne as police watch on

Horrific footage is emerging of numerous cowardly far-left attacks on patriotic March for Australia attendees in Melbourne right in front of non-responsive Victoria Police.

Videos shared on social media show chaos erupting in the city centre as Aussies wanting to celebrate their national day, many of them elderly, had their flags stolen and were punched, kicked, and shoved by ultra-violent anti-Australian “invasion day” protesters.

One man had his flag ripped from his hands and was pushed to the ground before dozens of far-left activists, some in Palestinians scarves and or Antifa-style attire attacked him from behind.

At one point he fought back in self-defence, only to be swarmed and bashed by the leftist mob. He was left with a torn shirt, and was also covered in red paint squirted at him from the crowd.

In another clip the man filming made repeated appeals to police officers, who were wearing special new helmets, for help as rallygoers were attacked, but the officers did not attempt to stop the violence.

Photos obtained by The Herald Sun show a man in an Australian flag facemask being handcuffed by police after a scuffle near Parliament Station, and anti-Australian activists defaced a statue of famous poet Adam Lindsay Gordon.

March for Australia attendees then worked together to clean off the graffiti.

The Herald Sun also reported that elderly women who found themselves surrounded by “invasion day” protesters removed their Australian hats and flags as they feared being attacked by the mob.

Ahead of the demonstrations Victoria Police claimed there was no intelligence suggesting a heightened risk of violence, and that the force was “well-prepared” and outfitted with the helmets as “an additional layer of protection to ensure the safety of our frontline police”.

“Victoria Police will not tolerate anyone intent on causing unruly, anti-social behaviour,” a spokesperson said at the time.

But police are yet to make a statement about Monday’s violence, and did not respond to a request for comment.

The decision to give the officers helmets came after far-left counter-protesters intent on injuring March for Australia rally attendees on October 19 pelted police with rocks and other dangerous projectiles after being prevented from going near the anti-immigration protest.

Militant left-wing groups also caused chaos during the first March for Australia event on August 31, when they used illegal aboriginal squatter encampment “Camp Sovereignty” as a base to attack stragglers returning to their cars, resulting in an alleged clash with then-members of the National Socialist Network.

On the same day butcher Dave Murphy was bashed and left with serious injuries after inadvertently walking past a group of far-left counter-protesters, and while police have not made any arrests six months on, they turned up at his house last week to advise him not to attend the Australia Day rally.

Victoria Police have also been under fire in recent days for starting an investigation into a jogger who allegedly said the word “poofter” despite the state’s crime levels being at record highs.
