Rubbish dumped all over immigrant-dominated Adelaide suburb: ‘Like a slum now’

An Adelaide suburb where most of the locals have been replaced by third world immigrants is now strewn with illegally dumped rubbish and overgrown yards and nature strips have become the norm.

A concerned resident told Noticer News the immigrant population in Gilles Plains has exploded since the last Census, possibly due to the suburb being home to a mosque, resulting in most of the stores now catering for the mainly Indian and Muslim newcomers, and the streets becoming covered with litter.

The man, known as Jords, shared photos of rubbish dumped on the street on just one day earlier this month, and said the neighbourhood where he has lived for about a decade has gone from “a typical Aussie suburb” to looking like “little India and or a little Middle Eastern country”.

“Most local shops are now Indian or Middle Eastern grocers, bakeries, convenience stores, fast-food etc, and with that comes the streets looking like the slums of Mumbai,” he said.

“And that’s when they aren’t packed with five to six cars each household or full of Muslims walking to the mosque for prayer time.

“It’s a case of import the third world, become the third world.”

He said he had reported the many heavily overgrown backyards to council, who told him they would “get to it by March”.

At the time of the 2021 Census Gilles Plains was 53.2% Australian-born, and 11% Indian born, but Jords said the Indian population had at least doubled since then.

In December residents of another Adelaide suburb, Queenstown, complained about the huge volume of rubbish dumped outside homes, and earlier this month the Victorian government started a multi-million scheme to combat illegal waste in the state.

Labor’s $8.5 million rebate program will help fund rubbish removal and clean-ups, and comes with a $13.5 million expansion of Victoria’s illegal dumping enforcement task force.

Data from from the Snap Send Solve app shows that the number of reports of illegal dumping in Victoria grew by more than 2,000 in just 12 months, rising from 116,293 in 2024 to 118,653 last year – a figure that is over half the 200,000 reports received nationwide.
