In a short film encouraging prayer for the Pope’s intention for March 2026, Leo XIV recalled that God created us all in his image and likeness, for community and brotherhood, not for war and destruction. “You who greeted your disciples with the words ‘peace be with you,’ grant us the gift of your peace and the strength to realize it in history,” the Holy Father prayed.
His prayer intention focuses on “effective disarmament, especially nuclear disarmament,” as well as peace, so that “world leaders choose the path of dialogue and diplomacy over violence,” as cited by Do Rzeczy.
“Today we raise a prayer to God for peace in the world, asking that nations renounce weapons and choose the path of dialogue and diplomacy,” said Pope Leo XIV.
Pope Leo XIV emphasized that each of us must “disarm” our hearts of hatred, anger and indifference in order to become “an instrument of reconciliation.”
Leo XIV asked God to help us understand that true security does not come from control fueled by fear, but from trust, justice, and solidarity among nations. “Lord, enlighten the leaders of nations so that they may have the courage to abandon ‘projects of death,’ halt the arms race, and place the most defenseless at the center of their lives. May the nuclear threat never again dictate the future of humanity,” the Pope said.
The Holy Father also emphasized that building peace is the task for each of us. “Holy Spirit, make us faithful and creative builders of daily peace: in our hearts, our families, our communities, and our cities. May every kind word, every gesture of reconciliation, and every choice of dialogue be the seed of a new world,” he said.
Leo XIV also presented his official position on the American-Israeli attack on Iran. “Faced with the threat of a tragedy of enormous proportions, I make a heartfelt appeal to the parties involved to assume their moral responsibility to stop the spiral of violence before it becomes an irreversible abyss!”
“May diplomacy recover its role and may the good of peoples be promoted, peoples who long for peaceful coexistence founded on justice,” he said. “And let us continue to pray for peace,” the statement read.
