The TheGarudaEye hacktivist group claims to have successfully executed a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack against the government portal of the Egypt Ministry of Finance (MoF). The attack, designated by the group as “GLOBAL CYBER ATTACK #0074,” reportedly caused widespread server outages resulting in “502 Bad Gateway” errors globally, starting at 09:12 Egypt Time on March 10, 2026. The incident appears to be politically motivated, accompanied by a manifesto from the group criticizing the exclusion of Gaza and Palestine from regional geopolitical negotiations.
While this is a DDoS attack and not a data breach, a prolonged outage of the MoF web infrastructure severely impacts government operations and public access. According to the actor’s statements and system impact assessments, the allegedly disrupted services include:
-
National budget data access
-
Electronic contracts
-
Certifications
-
E-invoices
-
Payroll systems
-
Complaint portals
