Prosecutors say a jealous ex-husband “came to kill” when he ambushed his ex-wife and her new lover outside their home in Frankfurt last year, carrying out a frenzied knife attack that saw her new partner stabbed more than 70 times.
According to the indictment, cited by Bild, 37-year-old Emral M. lay in wait outside the apartment on Friedrich-Stampfer-Strasse in the Bonames district on July 2, 2025, after suspecting his ex-wife had begun a new relationship.
Investigators say he was unable to enter the apartment unnoticed and instead remained outside until both victims left. “He wanted to punish them for adultery,” Senior Public Prosecutor Dominik Mies said.
When they stepped outside, the suspect is accused of launching a sustained and brutal assault on 46-year-old Tasin S., stabbing him more than 70 times before slitting his throat. Melyat M., his ex-wife, was also attacked but managed to escape with serious injuries. The couple’s two children were not present and did not witness the attack.
Prosecutors have charged Emral M. with murder and attempted murder, arguing the attack was premeditated and that he intended to kill both victims.
The case has drawn particular attention because of the suspect’s prior history and the timing of the attack. Earlier in 2025, Melyat M. had filed complaints accusing her ex-husband of rape and domestic violence. A restraining order was issued, and after he violated it, he was taken into custody for several days before being fitted with an electronic ankle monitor.
The monitoring, however, is legally limited to four months. Authorities said the suspect complied with all conditions during that period, meaning the measure expired on June 23, 2025, and could not be extended.
Just nine days later, the fatal attack took place.
“The tragic case in Bonames clearly shows that we need a change in the law on protection against violence,” Mies said. “It must be possible to wear an ankle monitor for a longer period.”
As cited by Hessenschau, Hesse’s Justice Minister Christian Heinz echoed that assessment at the time of the attack, stating, “Cases like this show that we need a change in the law on protection against violence so that wearing the ankle monitor for a longer period is possible.”
Frankfurt city official Tina Zapf-Rodríguez said the killing highlights a systemic gap, noting that the suspect “was already known to the police for similar offenses” and that the homicide occurred “just over a week after the four-month period had expired.”
She added that lawmakers must examine how to guarantee protection for vulnerable individuals “even beyond rigid time limits.”
Authorities confirmed the case had been handled by a specialized domestic violence risk management unit up until the end of the monitoring period, with no legal grounds to extend the measure further due to the suspect’s formal compliance.
