New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has called the fatal shooting of a 7-month-old baby “heinous murder” and warned “we cannot accept this violence as normal,” as a police manhunt continues.
The girl was shot in a stroller about 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday, when a man on a moped fired at a group of adults and children on a sidewalk in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, police said.
One of two men on the moped was wounded in the crash and taken to the hospital in custody in connection with an unrelated investigation, police said. The other man was still wanted as of Wednesday afternoon.
Police identified the child as Kaori Patterson-Moore of Clinton Hill, a neighborhood about 2 miles from where she was killed.
Police are asking the public to come forward with any information that may help the investigation.

During the shooting, the two men drove the wrong way on a moped on Humboldt Street and the passenger opened fire toward a group outside the corner of Humboldt and Moore Streets, according to police.

The baby girl died after being rushed to Woodhull Hospital. She is believed to be an unintended victim of gang-related violence, police said.
