African mother admits throwing her newborn baby out of a window in Melbourne

An African mother had admitted putting her newborn baby boy into a plastic bag and throwing him out of a window in Melbourne.

Irine Jerotich, 26, who is on bail, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday where she pleaded guilty to one count of reckless conduct endangering life.

Emergency services found the baby boy suffering life-threatening injuries outside a home in Dandenong North at 2.40am on August 30 last year after being called by housemates who were unaware Jerotich had even been pregnant, 7 News reported.

No details of the crime or allegations were aired in court on Monday, but police previously alleged Jerotich threw her newborn son out of the bathroom window onto concrete just hours after giving birth.

Jerotich, a disability support worker who is in Australian on a student visa, had a second charge of reckless conduct endangering injury to an infant withdrawn.

She had her bail continued to face the County Court of Victoria for a pre-sentencing hearing in February, with conditions requiring her to remain in the state and reside at her home address.
