Classes and events at several historically Black colleges and universities were canceled on Friday after a wave of fake threats against schools.
The false alarms on Thursday sent at least eight institutions into lockdown, unnerving students and educators and prompting condemnation from Black elected officials.
The schools did not provide information about the nature of the threats made, and it was unclear if they were connected.

In a statement, the F.B.I. said it was aware of what it called “hoax threat calls” to a number of H.B.C.U.s, adding that it had “no information to indicate a credible threat.”

Representative Yvette D. Clarke, the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, called the threats “terroristic” in a statement, and said they were a “chilling reminder of the relentless racism and extremism that continues to target and terrorize Black communities in this country.”
