A court trial for a 23-year-old Iraqi migrant has begun before the Dresden Regional Court, who prosecutors believe has no ability to limit his sexual impulses after a series of groping incidents targeting women and children.
The man is expected to be permanently placed in a secure psychiatric facility after the series of attacks, if prosecutors have their way.
In March 2025, according to prosecutors’ indictment, he sexually harassed several women and even a child.
Among the incidents, he grabbed a 22-year-old’s buttocks in front of the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), and in Blasewitz, he harassed a 17-year-old. Both victims were fortunately able to defend themselves from the stranger’s sexual assaults.
However, he then targeted a younger and smaller victim, attacking a 10-year-old near a school.
Police were able to arrest the Iraqi man, but in each case, he was quickly released.
The accused first applied for asylum in Sweden but likes to repeatedly travel to Germany. In February 2024, he returned to the Swedish city of Trelleborg with a ferry using the Dublin procedure. However, he popped up again in Saxony-Anhalt shortly after he was sent back to Sweden.
Now, the court is examining whether the Iraqi man has schizophrenia and whether he can be put inside a psychiatric hospital, permanently.
Apparently, police sources say there is an agreement to deport the man, but it is unclear where that could be to. As already noted, he keeps reappearing after being sent to Sweden, which means any deportation to that country would not only be ineffective, but would also burden Sweden with the repeat offender.
“Iraq is best. He’ll probably keep coming back from Sweden,” said an insider. The trial will continue behind closed doors.
The issue of groping, sexual assaults, and rape from Germany’s foreign population remains a major news topic.
Data released this year shows that 65 percent of sexual assault suspects in swimming pools were foreigners in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Approximately half of all gang rapes are committed by foreigners, according to nationwide statistics.
According to Remix News reporting last year, foreigners are responsible for 59 percent of sexual crimes at German train stations and public transport in the country, and in general, sex crimes have doubled since 2019 on public transport.
This has included everything from migrants masturbating on rail lines, resulting in regional traffic shutdowns, to German staff being terrorized to the point that they are not showing up for work, including due to physical assaults and sexual violence. There is now even a policy in place to not check train tickets for people who look to be foreign out of fear of assault.
It is worth noting that foreigners only make up approximately 14 percent of the German population.
Even when broken down by age, young foreigners are vastly overrepresented in sexual crimes and violent offenses compared to German youths of the same age, according to data released this year.
