Past US Presidents have declared that certain groups of illegal aliens have “temporary protection” from depuration. Then they just renew it over and over. Then each president after them renew it over and over. Until Trump’s second term began, it has never actually been “temporary.”
We now have illegal aliens who have been “temporarily” protected from deportation since the 90s. During Trump’s first term, he ordered that six be allowed to expire. This was illegally blocked by extreme-left activist judges. The Supreme Court finally ruled in Trump’s favor at the end of his term. However, as soon as Biden took office, he cancelled Trump’s orders and renewed them again. Biden also went wild and ordered protected status for eleven new groups.
When Trump entered office last January. 17 groups held Temporary Protected Status [TPS] status, the oldest being Somalians who have held the status since 1991. Another four held Deferred Enforcement Departure [DED], the oldest being Liberians who held the status since 1991.
Note that TPS and DED don’t protect all illegal aliens. They only protect those who entered the US illegally during certain date ranges. However, in many cases, presidents have consecutively increased the date range, adding tens or hundreds of thousands of new illegal aliens to the protect order.
So far Trump has ended TPS for
