On July 8th, 2025, Sivan Wilson, 17, was one of six perps who broke into a residential garage in White Lake Township, Pontiac, MI, at night.

Homeowner Dayton Knapton, 24, fired two shots through a windowless garage door. Two of the six perps were hit. All six fled the scene and waited thirty minutes to call for medical help. By that time, it was too late for paramedics to save Wilson.

On November 7th, 2025, the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office charged the homeowner with manslaughter. The Prosecuting Attorney for Oakland County, MI, Karen D. McDonald, said that Knapton “crossed a line.” McDonald is famous for charging the parents of mass school shooter Ethan Crumbley, 15, and winning serious prison time for both.

Some local media reported that Wilson was shot in the back while fleeing. This is a false claim from Wilson’s family, which the police department and the McDonald’s office have both said is not true. Wilson did fire extra shots as the perps fled the scene, but no one has clarified if he fired into the ground, into the air, or at a person.

Contrary to what some have claimed, Knapton is not being charged for these extra shots. He is charged with manslaughter for Wilson, assault for wounding another perp, and using a gun in the first two charges. None of the criminal charges is related to these extra shots.

This story was flying under the radar until National Conservative posted multiple tweets about it on November 13th. Over the next few days, two of these tweets both reached 2.5 million views. This caused progressively larger, for-profit, monetized accounts to tweet about it. Eventually leading to Catturd (3.9M followers), New York Post (3.5M followers), and Lauren Chen (600K followers), all tweeting about it on November 16th.

By the morning of November 17th, it was a major trending story on Twitter.
