The plans for the NATO Secretary General’s visit include visits to Polish and allied soldiers, as well as a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Polsat News reminded, as cited by Do Rzeczy, that a key stage in the implementation of the Patriot defense system in the Polish Army as part of Phase I of the WISŁA system began at the Toruń training ground in September 2022. The first live-fire exercise using this American equipment took place three years later as part of the “Iron Defender” exercise.
The organization of this exercise was a response to Russia’s Zapad-25 maneuvers. The defense minister emphasized at the time that Poland has the third-largest army in NATO. However, to maintain its position on the podium, he explained, it is necessary to organize exercises like the one in Ustka.
“Firing exercises, for the first time in Polish history, using the Patriot system on Polish soil. We are building a multi-layered air defense,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said. He also pointed out, at the time, that only Americans and Poles possessed the IBCS system, but the Polish Army implemented it faster.
“In the United States, such a system was only fired as part of factory tests; in Poland, the first firing took place by a line unit, which in this case is defending Warsaw, which is a game changer,” the minister pointed out.
The Polsat News journalist also posted about the urgency of Poland working with Turkey. “A new security architecture for Poland – support and cooperation with Turkey,” he wrote, adding that Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said, “There is no and will not be a common European army. It is NATO that will defend EU in case of war. The EU should invest in security with Turkey. I will advocate for this in Brussels.”
